Burning smell in a balloon-frame cottage — Ukrainian Village's workers' cottages were built with balloon framing — vertical wall cavities that run uninterrupted from the foundation to the attic. If an electrical fire starts in that wall cavity, it can travel the full height of the building before anyone sees smoke at the ceiling. This requires both ComEd coordination and an electrician.
Detached garage sub-panel fault — Ukrainian Village's narrow lots typically feature detached alley-side garages fed by a sub-panel from the main house.
